Commodatum brings together works from the museum’s permanent collection… The project draws on the legal concept of “commodatum”, formulated in the 16th century by Martín de Azpilcueta, as a framework for thinking about relationships based on trust, shared use, and community. In contrast to economic models focused on accumulation and debt, this notion provides both a symbolic and structural key for imagining other possible forms of relation. The exhibition title also refers to the fact that the Adrastus collection, formed by Javier Lumbreras and Lorena Pérez-Jácome—now the foundation of Collegium’s permanent holdings—has been placed in the museum on an permanent commodatum loan.
